Casement window styles

Flush timber casement windows

Flush timber casement windows are an incredibly popular design which work perfectly for either a contemporary or more traditional property style.

Flush casement window design means the casement sits flush (level) with the window frame. Modern flush casement windows are very effective at keeping out wind and rain and are incredibly energy efficient.

High performing, customisable and built to last a lifetime, these windows can be paired with your choice of glazing, colour, and ironmongery to perfectly complement your own style and taste as well as your home's aesthetic.

Whether you're looking for a traditional or contemporary style, our bespoke timber casement windows could be the perfect fit for your project.

Lipped timber casement windows

Timber lipped casement windows are a casement window design where the casement stands proud of the window frame, which creates more of a feature of your casement window.

The main difference and key feature of lipped casement windows compared to other casement window designs is the lipped casement. As your window casement will sit proud of your window frame, lipped casements are also known as ‘stormproof’, and they have been a popular choice with UK homeowners since they first appeared in the 1950s.

Lipped Casement windows offer many benefits including simple maintenance, energy efficiency and long lifespan as well as adding value to your home.

Client reviews

Hawker did a brilliant job replacing 2 windows in my flat. Great communication throughout the whole process. They came up against a structural problem when removing one of the old windows  but dealt with this quickly and professionally. The finished windows are stunning and I would not hesitate to recommend Hawker or contact them again for future work.

Leanne Clover

I have recently taken delivery of sash windows and a front door from Hawker Joinery - the production quality is stunning, the installation team, excellent, and the finish superbe. I had 1 small, niggly issue, they sorted it straight away. What I appreciated is their attention to detail, clarity of communication and personable approach.

I have been delighted to have used Hawkers Joinery for the first time on my period house renovation in 2019 after a recommendation. Initially they produced my like for like replacement windows, however having been extremely impressed with the quality of their product, as well as their service and reliability.

Hawker Joinery refurbished 3 Victorian Windows for us. Nick did an extremely professional job taking care not just in the work to the window but also to minimise any mess or disruption to our home. The work has been successful in ensuring that these windows no longer rattle and allow dirt to penetrate into the room.

Timber sash windows are very elegant in design and can achieve small section sizes meaning larger glass sightline for more light into your home. There are many mould options for timber sash windows to choose from such as ovolo, lambs tongue and astragal. These are normally determined on a listed building to match those in the house or on a more modern build personal preference of the customer.

Spiral balances mean we can slim this right down and achieve the same visual looks from the outside as a traditional keeping all elegant in design.

Timber sliding sash windows are certainly energy efficient. With the high quality timber we use it is a great natural insulator and better than the likes of uPVC. It is very important to use the correct double glazing when buying new windows, double glazing has improved so much over the years. The best type of glazing uses a low emissivity glass which is designed to improve energy efficiency. It’s a coating that is applied to the face of the glass specifically designed to reflect the heat back into your home meaning reduced heating costs. During the summer months, double hung sash windows also provide better ventilation. By opening both the top and bottom sashes, sash windows allow you to improve the circulation of air within your room, cooling down your property in the hot weather.
  • What maintenance is required for timber sash windows?
