Ironmongery

All of our sliding sash windows come fitted with square end pulley wheels, white cord, lead weights, a fastener, curved sash lifts and security stops. If your opening hasn’t got the room for large box sides with lead weights we also offer spiral balances which come in a white, brown or black finish and can be surface fitted on the inside of the box.

We can offer a range of finishes such as polished brass, polished chrome, satin chrome, black, bronze and antique brass.

Glass choices

There are many glazing options for your windows and doors. We offer single glazing, slimline double glazing, double glazing or Fineo vacuum double glazing. If your property is listed this will restrict you to single glazing unless you apply for planning permission to change. In this process we can help with all detailed drawings for you to submit as part of your application.

Sound reduction can also be achieved with acoustic glazing. This is where we upgrade the outer pane of the double glazing to be thicker to achieve a better
decibel rating. This is often for homes close to high traffic roads.

Paints & Finishes

At Hawker Joinery we offer a water-based three coat spray painted finish. This includes one primer coat and two top finish coats. Often people want the outside and inside the same colour but sometimes a dual colour is requested which we can also offer where different colours are chosen externally and internally. The paint is microporous meaning it works perfectly with the timber to let it breath, be flexible and durable. This will help minimise cracking and peeling to the surface coating to help achieve low maintenance.

We know there are many brands of paint and colours to choose from so we offer a few options:

1. You can choose a RAL number from the RAL colour chart.

2. You can reference a brand of paint and the colour and we will match this closely with our in house paint system.

3. If you require a like for like match and don’t know the paint colour, we can peel a sample section from the window / door and send away to be matched.

Generally timber windows will last over 20 years with the correct maintenance being carried out every 5 years however if they are made from Accoya timber it will rise to 50 years due to its high performance.
How do timber sash windows compare to uPVC in terms of cost and maintenance?

Timber sash windows have a great insulation value and along with high performance glass units they can be high performing for your home in terms of heat loss to save high energy bill costs. Timber sash windows are very durable and can last a lifetime If they are retreated and checked over every 5-7 years. Timber sash windows are very elegant in design and can achieve small section sizes meaning larger glass sightline for more light into your home. There are many mould options for timber sash windows to choose from such as ovolo, lambs tongue and astragal. These are normally determined on a listed building to match those in the house or on a more modern build personal preference of the customer.
Are timber sash windows suitable for modern homes?

Timber sash windows can go in modern or old properties. They are a great design which add timeless charm and elegance to any home. They can increase the first impression to your home and make it more appealing to potential buyers. Normally in modern homes a spiral balanced sash windows is chosen. This is because of the way most modern homes are built with no inside rebate to take the large box sections which would normally hide the lead weights and wide box frame. It is very important to use the correct double glazing when buying new windows, double glazing has improved so much over the years. It’s a coating that is applied to the face of the glass specifically designed to reflect the heat back into your home meaning reduced heating costs. During the summer months, double hung sash windows also provide better ventilation. The technical team will carry out a concise final survey and final CAD drawings for your approval. Quotes contain information for all aspects of the joinery including timber, glass, ironmongery and optional paint finishes, alongside a specification.
Handmade joinery

On approval of the final quotation, your joinery vision goes into production and your joinery is hand crafted by our skilled craftsmen.
Delivery

On preparation of dispatch, we require final payment for your joinery. The joinery is then delivered to your chosen location ready for installation.
